That's the only way someone can enjoy Unfair difficulty in Pathfinder games where absurd optimisation and mandatory munchkin characters are already an issue.ĥe is not designed to be played like that so don't expect to be able to to do the same here, at least not in the same way you did on Pathfinder. It seems to me you like to munchkin and cheese your way into cRPGs.

I only fought orc chiefs at around level 8, not 3, and dnd doesn't intend for you to be able to beat that fairly, only through cheese and abusing of game mechanics.īasically you can either expect the rest of the campaign to go similarly, only easing up near the end once you're high level and start to outscale the enemies, or you can drop the difficulty down in order to fight fair encounters balanced for your level. The fact that you even made it past the opening fights against the Sorraks is already impressive, but ultimately, Cata is challenge mode, and the fights you're running into right now are because of it.

Cata is made to be purposely unfair, will make every single encounter to be super high difficulty, and mostly requires in depth knowledge on how to optomize a party for it, while requring perfect positioning and CC for fights. No one seems to be mentioning the main thing here, which is the fact that you're playing on cata difficulty for your first time.

Having spent my money on virtually nothing except recipes and ingredients for healing potions, magic missile scrolls and healing scrolls.Īm i missing optional areas? Are there sidequests I didn't see? I'm not using a guide so I would like it to be as spoiler free as possible. I don't have very good gear yet, because I haven't gotten really any decent drops and I only have 1.5k gold. I'm running a DPS Sorcerer (who will buff with haste when i can get it), a Survival Monk Tank, A Paladin hybrid melee DPS and off tank and a life cleric with a crossbow. I rolled for stats so my stats are way higher than the point buy and one of my characters has 20 wisdom and proficiency in survival - so its literally as high as i can get it without expertise. I just had a goblin chieftan party with wolves suprise me and he one shotted with lightening my cleric and paladin both with over 40 hp. I beat an ogre and orc party, but the orc chieftan had so much HP it took me like 10 turns while my cleric constantly used the revive dead cantrip on the character the chieftan was wailing on.

However, I started my journey to The Dark Castle at lvl 3 and hit lvl 4 on the road and several of the random encounters have been crazy hard. I'm finding it to be a real challenge but not impossible. So I'm playing on cataclysm difficulty and doing my first playthrough. Formerly known as Community Expansion 2.įirst time player.
